How to Start a Centrifugal Pump in 30 Seconds
Sep 26, 2026| Before starting:
1. Check anchor bolts - make sure they're all tight.
2. Give the shaft a manual turn to confirm it spins free, no tight spots.
3.Open the suction valve and prime the pump. Don't let it run dry.
4.Discharge valve stays closed. Quick check on lube oil and seals - all good before hitting start.
Start-up:
1. Fire it up and let it run. Listen for anything off.
2. Hold about 30 seconds for discharge pressure and amps to settle out.
3. Crack the discharge valve open slowly. Bring it to the working position.
After start-up - walk around and check:
1. Smooth running, no knocking, no unusual vibration.
2. Bearing temp under 70℃. Discharge pressure on spec.
3. Seals holding, no leaks at flanges or pipe joints.
That's centrifugal pump is up and running.
